Dream Journal is a collection of poetry and art — a semester long passion project combining my work from an intro to poetry class and a design studio class. It tackles heavy topics with colorful imagery.

A Kairotic Moment: Short Fable
Writer’s memo:
This piece was challenging to write because the goal was to personify animals and portray a lesson through a metaphor. Thus, I had to be very careful with the animals I chose while also considering power dynamics. I was attempting to portray the moral that you shouldn't judge someone just because they may look or act differently from you because that can lead to negative consequences. Because the baby giraffe threatened Teras since it looked different from herself, it led to her entire community's downfall. I think this fable responds to a kairotic moment because there has inherently always been an issue in this world where people are constantly judging other people just because they don't act like they do or look like they do. I think racism is a prime example of this. Considering the state that our country is in and especially the prevailing opinions and actions of our president, I believe that this fable is being written at an opportune time to take action against hatred and discrimination. I feel as though I was successful in articulating this lesson in my legend.
